Do I really need a maintenance plan for WordPress?
If the site earns you money, yes. Outdated plugins are the single most common way WordPress sites get compromised, and the cleanup costs far more than the maintenance would have.
What happens if the site goes down?
Uptime monitoring alerts me, and depending on the arrangement I investigate before you have noticed. That is most of what you are paying for.
Can you maintain a site you did not build?
Usually. I will audit it first and tell you honestly what shape it is in, including if the honest answer is that maintaining it is throwing good money after bad.
